Dana Gioia is an internationally acclaimed poet and former chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. Currently serving as professor of poetry and public culture at the University of Southern California, he was recently appointed Poet Laureate of the State of California. Gioia has published four full-length collections of poetry as well as eight chapbooks. An influential critic as well, his book Can Poetry Matter?, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award, is credited with helping revive the role of poetry in American public culture.
