Welcome to the Abbey
Saint Andrew's Abbey is a Benedictine monastery, a religious community of Roman Catholic men who are vowed to a life of constant conversion and witness to the Gospel. The monastic community was founded in China in 1929 by the Abbey of Sint Andries Zevenkerken in Brugge, Belgium. The monks prayed, taught, and worked in China until they were expelled by the communists in 1952.In 1955,the community relocated to Valyermo in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, California. The Abbey is a sacred place where every day, ordinary people can come away from the hectic city-life to renew and refresh their body and spirit.

Monastery Plans & Goals
Dear Friends of St. Andrew's Abbey,
With sincere gratitude, I wish to thank each and every one of you who generously contributed to our Lenten Appeal.
Your gifts of over $7600 will help us serve the poor in the context of Benedictine spirituality. This includes, among other useful forms of support, emergency financial assistance to families and individuals who cannot pay for their basic needs. Most important, it includes prayers for the grace and mercy of Our Risen Lord to give them hope and joy in spite of their many hardships.
Please know that I deeply appreciate your faithful dedication to the connection between the Abbey's mission and the commands of Jesus to "love one another." (John 13:34). And be assured of our prayers for you throughout this Year of Mercy.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Abbot Damien Toilolo, O.S.B.
